We are now almost 3 months into this and we have no control over our Facebook account, no ability to advertise and have been served with more than 100 emails from meta Pro Support “personnel” that they appreciate our patience while they need 24-48 hours to look into it. We have never sold a robotic toy, never had a Web site in Asia and everything these hackers did was blatantly not consistent with our usage patterns. Keep in mind, Facebook didn’t need any documents or IDs from foreign actors who advertised robotic toys using our account, pixels, etc. Despite the obvious question, how is this possible and how come no alarms went off at Facebook, we dutifully submitted our corporate documents, personal IDs, etc. Within hours of the hack we notified Facebook and the story began.

Mind you, we’re rather experienced with security and have followed all published best practices including hard 2FA with authenticator apps, granular access control, etc.

In late November our corporate account at Facebook Meta was hacked. Oddly, what I am experiencing affects all of us. This open letter is intended for my network, friends and even competitors. #science #people #writing #society #misinformation #fakenews So, you know, be critical and support the people who try to put out quality information. ➡ Misinformation multiplies faster than you can refute it. "The amount of energy needed to refute bullshit is an order of magnitude bigger than that needed to produce it." ⚖ Brandolini's law: In response to Silvio Berlusconi in a talk show, Italian programmer Alberto Brandolini stated the bullsh*it asymmetry principle: In response to critics (wrongfully!) lamenting the quality of science fiction, author & critic Theodore Sturgeon replied: ".shows that ‘novelty’ is a key attribute for misinformation or fake news and contributes significantly to its viral spread and penetration in society." 🎇 The law of shiny things (I made that one up, but the other two are real, promise). ❔ Where does this come from? I think it's due to three laws. (To be fair, before writing the thing below, I thought it was worse). 😲 Roughly one in ten news-related posts you read online contains misinformation.
